Wet pour rubber surfacing rubber crumb surfacing is the most popular surface option for playgrounds and also ideal for children’s sports areas, nurseries and school sports surfaces. It is durable, long lasting, easy to maintain and has a comfortable soft feel underfoot. It is shock absorbent and can cushion children from falls (provided the correct critical fall height is installed).

Unlike traditional woodchips, poured rubber is soft and does not splinter. It is easy to clean and does not require regular watering like other surfaces such as asphalt and concrete. It also doesn’t crumble or deteriorate over time and does not need the addition of chemicals to prevent moss and other organisms growing. Wet pour is also very versatile, allowing for colourful patterns and shapes to be created which can inspire a child’s imagination and help to create an engaging play space.

Safety First: How Wet Pour Rubber Surfacing Enhances Playground Safety

A wet pour surface can be applied to many different sub bases, including a recycled aggregate base and asphalt. It can also be installed over existing hard surfaced playgrounds such as concrete or asphalt if excavation is carried out to reduce levels to the required depth for the Rubberworx layer. The wet pour surface is then bonded to the sub base using an RPCR or EPDM wearing layer.

The coloured layers of the wet pour are mixed and bound together on site with an elastic polyurethane binder, creating a flexible, porous and resilient surface that is available in a wide range of colours, shapes and designs. It is also environmentally friendly, using scrap tyres that would otherwise have been thrown away.
