Inner-eco was founded in 2008 by Niki Price, a public school teacher and mother on a mission to help her immunocompromised son heal from repeated rounds of antibiotics. When she and her business partner, Barb Vogel, began selling their coconut water kefir in health food stores, they agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds to nonprofits working on the ground to address the growing problem of antibiotic resistance.

Kefir is a tangy, fermented beverage made by combining milk with kefir “grains.” The grains are made up of live yeast and lactic acid bacteria, which create an effervescent, sour-tasting drink that’s rich in probiotics, calcium, and vitamin D.
